3. Forder Lane Cottage

Forder Lane Cottage is, like some other properties in Dartington, very old, dating (probably) from the early 1500s, having been remodelled in the mid to late C1600s. It is built with local limestone rubble, with a thatched roof and gabled ends; the lower section of the front slope is partly grouted scantle slate.

The house was possibly extended at the higher end of the 18th century. Internally, gable end stacks heat the higher and lower end rooms, and the hall had a front lateral stack which has been truncated. Recently the partitions on either side of the passage were removed forming one large room from the lower end room and the hall. The house has at some point been divided into two; the higher end room is one cottage and the hall and lower end the other cottage.
